Mayfaire 2018:

So last year I realized I never did a proper recap of one of the most problematic races I’ve done and yet I keep going back to like a bad relationship…
Mayfaire…

Don’t get me wrong I love running at dusk however at the same time this race just gives me so much anxiety as while they say it’s WALKER friendly being at a 14-15 minute mile like I’m at on an average day is too slow as there were only 56 finishers behind me 43 of those female and 3 in my age group a far cry from promise run aka my last PR which was a fairly similar course and yet out of my age group I finished in the top 1/3rd ….

So, let me begin by saying for as strict as I was in moving while training for Dark Side I hadn’t been out running since Saturday of last week…plus I spent the week in constant fear that 1) it would rain again which I’ve still yet properly trained in the rain 2) it would be unbearably hot or 3) BOTH

I DID get an email earlier in the week and I at first thought it was a heat advisory post and them possibly announcing additional water stops or encouraging runners to byob however that wasn’t the case and instead it said how they had an overwhelming amount of runners and were going to run out of medals … being that I’m not an eliete runner I thought for sure I’d have to put my name on a mailing list to receive one at a later date (spoilers I got one)

So the race was SUPPOSED to start at 7 with strollers (was this the first year for those…I don’t remember) starting at 715…. This was NOT the case as the first stroller passing me at around 7:06 when I’d been about a half mile into running….I was making a crazy good time up till that point but early inclines aggravated a blister on my foot and I didn’t want to push myself…plus the smells from the two steakhouses that you pass by early on just kind of triggered my sinus issues and made me feel all kinds of light headed….

I made my way to the first mile marker with a pretty decent pace…still averaging under a 14 m/m and well on track to maybe…possibly PR even though with the humidity it wasn’t my intention and honestly, I just wanted to beat or be on par with last years official time (spoilers I was a minute ten above sadly)

By the time I made it to mile marker 2 my average pace jumped up a full minute but again my mindset was I’m still under a 15 m/m per fitbit however doing the math I knew I wouldn’t PR unless I gunned for it and so I kept my stride with a few sprints here and there….

As I reached the 2.3 mark I watched as the sag wagon was coming up the opposite side of the road meaning that while my average pace was down a second I need to light a fire under my blistered foot and get….

As I finished unofficially my fitbit said I clocked in 3.24 miles with weaving at a 47:52 minute run with a 14’46 m/m while my official time which I much say came through way quicker then years past was a 47:28 chip time and a 15’17 m/m
