MAYFAIRE 2019:

I SWEAR THAT EVERY YEAR I FINISH THIS RACE AND SCOFF THINKING THAT I MIGHT WANT TO SKIP IT THE FOLLOWING YEAR THOUGH WITH 2018 ADDING MEDALS AND THIS YEAR BEING AN ANNIVERSARY I KEEP COMING BACK THOUGH IDK IF SEA WORLD’S SESAME STREET RUN WAS A SUCCESS AND THEY MAKE IT AN ANNUAL EVENT ON MOTHERS DAY WEEKEND AND I KNOW ABOUT IT EARLY ENOUGH WHO KNOWS I MAY BE A CHILDLESS 36 YEAR OLD RUNNING IT BUT BACK TO MAYFAIRE….

Okay so I wasn’t as anxious about things this year (okay so when I arrived at the start line there was a birthday party ending in the parks picnic area and they were popping balloons and they sounded like gunshots) but it was HOT like my weather app saying it was 95 but feels like 98 HOT as I was leaving the house.

I was smart though and dressed cool (in the Race Shirt was a white tech tank, my blue Fila tennis skort that I got way back for Wine and Dine 2016 and seriously wonder if there is a Fila outlet if they still make cute tennis skorts like these cause they’d be great for summer runs….anyway those were accessorized by my blue sparkle headband and grey fresh foams) as well as carried a bottle of cold (frozen) water in my pocket….

Once again they announced pre-race that there were two waves with wave 2 being at 715 for strollers and those running with small children yet lots of small children lined up ahead in the curtesy corralling and the first stroller passed me at 702 so I wish they enforced the rules better or had a separate kids race/stroller roll because especially in the beginning every time I gained momentum I swear a child weaved in front of me and stopped short. Also, during the announcements, they said due to the heat which at race start dropped to a cool 90 feels like 96 runners should slow down to prevent themselves from head related issues and well after promise run I decided to do just that.

I knew I wasn’t going to PR, but my goal was to beat last years’ time of 47:28 (I didn’t) or just not be dead last (I wasn’t)

Made it to mile 1 in 14:42 minutes with my Fitbit registering 1.04 miles and a 14’04 pace at this point I already had a glitch with my music skipping as well as pausing briefly to tie my shoe and take a sip of water

Speaking of water my Fitbit registered 1.76 miles when I reached the water stop and 1.99 when I reached it again on the other side of the median

Hit mile 2 at 30:09 minutes with a Fitbit register of 2.03 miles and a 14’48 pace

At this point as I paused briefly for a mister fan and watched the pace car come up the other side when I was at 2.33 miles according to the Fitbit I felt comfortable that I was going to be on par with last years’ time despite scaling back….then everything was shot to shit

So somehow my 90+ minute 15K playlist that I had on shuffle decided to end about 43 minutes into the race JUST as I was about to hit the ‘hill from hell’ that almost KO’d me during Promise Run since I was snail crawling for a good minute or two to fix things by the time I made to toward the lake and marker 3 I was already at 47:35 (seven seconds over last years’ time) with my fitbit registering 3.12 miles and a 15’12 pace

At the end my fitbit registered 3.24 miles in 49:05 with a 15’08 pace with an official time of 49’07 and a 15’48 pace so once again my official pace was about 40 seconds over what fitbit said I need to keep a mental note on that going forward….

While I didn’t beat last years’ time there were 92 people behind me as opposed to last years 56 and I think that’s the most people I’ve finished in front of yet!!

Next up is the Watermelon and Marvel Virtual Short series in June, July, August
