WAKANDA FOREVER|| August Race Report

Okay I know this sounds as if I'm skipping over Watermelon however this is not the case as this account is to combine both Watermelon and my August Virtual Short
Lets Start with Watermelon

I finally got in the swing of the best place to pick up/drop off from the race and we did the same thing we did in July so I arrived about a half hour give or take from the start time and headed over to the staging area to pin my bib and stretch... this time it was significantly hotter then the past few months at 78 feels like 86 with that in mind I knew I wasn't going to push myself about to beat previous months times let alone get close to PR ing my goal was just to make sure the time on my fitbit was less then a 15 min pace

The first thing I noticed was a LOT of security I don't know if it was implemented due to the recent shootings or if I've only noticed it because of them but either way it didn't effect my run aside from be being extra aware of my surroundings. The other thing I noticed was that the MC of the race in addition to saying there was a heat advisory (did he even say that? I don't remember but it was hotter then June and July when he did so he MUST have) mentioned photographers taking runner photos at the start and finish.

OOTD was the Race Series tank with my Green Livi Skort and bandanna bondi band and I didn't get far into the race maybe a minute or two before stopping to tie my shoe.

About 3/4 of a mile into things I slowed to pull out my water bottle and made the mistake of freezing the water the night before as it was still frozen solid and so I was still hot. Shortly after that we hit the merge onto the running path from the road point and soon after that was marker 1 at 14:05 which was about a minute slower then July which was to be understood considering the heat also the fact that the sun this time was glaring me in the eye causing the beginnings of a headache...ooch

Just after the mile marker I slowed again to pull out my bottle of water...still frozen I settled to hold my cooling towel and wait until I passed the next fountain on the lakeside trail to soak it (I'd be using these fountains to hydrate but I'm a bit germaphobic when it comes to drinking directly from a fountain) At 1.51 miles there was the water break however and at 1.70 I was finally wetting my cloth before hitting marker 2 with a fitbit time of 30:15

Reaching Mile 3 @ 46:08 and the finish line at 47:50 via my fitbit my official time was 48:01

All and all this series was pretty fun and I wouldn't mind doing it again in 2020 unless I have a vacation or other scheduling conflicts

Also if you add up the times of my three races like the above picture says I have a new 15K PR (though that doesn't really count now does it)

Now onto my Black Panther run...

OOTD was my Fila Navy and Pink Capri with my 2016 Promise Run and 2016 Every Miles Magic RunDisney Bondi Band

at my first water pause at 1.01 miles my pace was 14'43 which was better then both prior virtual runs

1.64 was my turn around with my pace bumping up to 14'51 but still my best virtual wise yet... also I noticed my mileage at the turn around and water stop were less then July so I assume I wasn't weaving as much as my path was exactly the same all three races

2.27 my second water pause with a pace of 15'02 which was still my best yet and I knew that as long as I didn't slog while it was doubtful I'd PR I knew I'd beat or be on par with June and July's times and that I wouldn't have to try to pull myself out to do a second attempt like I did in prior months as I've been so unmotivated to run outside these past weeks cause it's too freaking HOT

As I locked in at 3.1 my official pace was 15'20 and my time was 47:38 which was 50 seconds less then July and a minute sixteen less then June

again I think the combine time while not beating Watermelon beat my 15K Gaspirilla time so that was fun....

As far as re-run ability I think if the theme for next years virtual shorts (which will be the fifth anniversary) calls to me then perhaps I'll sign up but for the cost it doesn't have the same feel as running through the parks....

and speaking of running through parks I just added an October race to my calendar that is at LegoLand so that will be fun

My next few runs will be fun with THE COLOR RUN in September, the above mentioned Legoland run in October then Run Disney Wine and Dine weekend in November...after that unless something calls to me in January and/or I do Bulldog again it will be Lime Cactus
