Castaway Cay 5K 2018||

So....of the three cruise lines I've sailed one one of the checks in the pro column I have for Disney Cruise Line is the fact that they offer a 5K (Princess offered one as well but it was an additional fee/donation and the proceeds went to an organization that has a reputation of skimming a chunk off the top to their suits before actually giving to the cause but anyway....)

This is the third time I've done this race and honestly I don't know if it was due to how brutal the summer and currently fall here in Florida has been or what but I didn't find the heat as grueling as it was the first two times I've ran ....

And this time I didn't have a tank top on either as while people don't usually go all out dressing up like the weekends in the parks back in 2017 there was a family running in full on Peter Pan themed running costumes (son was peter, mom was tink, dad was hook) and so I decided to recycle my Rapunzel outfit from last falls Wine and Dine....

So check in for the race was at 8AM in one of the lounges and once everyone handed in their excursion ticket and scanned their key cards to get their bibs the event director went over the course layout. (turn around the corner then run down the airstrip until you reach the water stop at the outside of the bike loop... loop once clockwise then run the rest of the airstrip until you reach the adult beach....turn around until you get back to the bike loop and loop it a SECOND time also clockwise before heading back up the strip and around the bend to where you started....easy peesy plus it's on the honor system and there were plenty of people who choose to just loop once HELL some people will just turn back after the initial look and won't even do the switch back down the airstrip but honestly your only cheating yourself.

So, I didn't bring my music as I assumed I'd be running with my sister however she and my brother in law decided to just walk and so I set my alarm for 44 minutes (not that I planned to PR but without being able to track mileage on my fitbit or stravia due to my phone being in airplane mode I wanted some perspective on my time)

So it took me roughly 25 minutes to reach the halfway point (aKa turning around at the end of the airstrip by the adult beach)

and within those same sixty seconds I was passing my sister and brother in law on the opposite side of the airstrip.....

Making my way back into the loop I felt at ease though I knew if I had music on me I'd probably of been panting as I'd of been pushing myself harder and just minutes before my alarm went off I saw this sight:

and about two minutes after passing this just as my alarm began to buzz I made it out of that loop and down that last stretch of course to the finish line:

Okay... so technically I finished a few seconds earlier as it took me time to aim to take a photo of the sign but semantics and like I said yet again it's an un-timed fun run and boy did I have fun (for the record my sister and brother in law weren't too far behind crossing the finish line about 3 minutes after me)

After finishing the race, I decided that while there are no actual characters on the Castaway Cay course unless you are doing the challenge during Marathon Weekend in January there were some out in their island attire to meet the guests at various intervals and so I decided to head over to where a few of them were meeting. I ended up meeting Minnie (Goofy was also in the area but I'd already met him this trip in his cruise attire. I could of also ran down to try to make Daisy's line before it was capped or wait where I was for 15-20 minutes to see Mickey but I wanted to just change and get wet at this point so....)

After plugging and chugging the 49:33 into my fitbit upon my return home it shows my pace is 15:59 which is passable for a fun run however with seeing the course for Wine and Dine this year it's not near as fast as I want to be....
