An Extra Day to Run: Promise Run 2020

Time for a cool down after last weeks Gaspirilla with Promise Run because when the calendar gives you an extra day do whats fun!

It was another chilly morning though with it being 54 feels like 48 at race start and even cooler leaving home I wore almost the same outfit I did for my 15K however instead it was my Sebastian RunDisney shirt from 2018 and the rainbow bondi band I purchased at Gasparilla last week paired with the same leggings, jacket and shoes and with the cold I had hoped to finally break my PR slump however that…wasn’t what happened

I arrived at around 8AM however by the time I walked to the parks restroom and walked back it was 820 with a race start of approximately 835…

It was honor system for corals again with pace groups from 6-9 m/m then walkers and strollers…. I was starting with the 11 m/m pacers last week so I planned to just start parallel to the walker sign…again like last year I made a mistake… {sidebar it will be interesting with Mayfair which is supposedly doing corralling based on projected pace though I put my PR which is a 14 ish m/m so I'll probably be tossed with walkers)

Speaking of mistakes I thought I’d take this race as an opportunity to try out the new water bottle I recently purchased however at .69 miles I was having issues trying to figure out how to open and close it on the go but I'm getting ahead of myself.

So, remember when I just said it goes from a 9 m/m to walkers? Yea I crossed the starting pad and I felt as if I was still shuffling through the coral as there was just a wall of people walking. I managed to edge as far left as I could and tried to break away however between that and the toes of my left foot feeling a bit numb it killed my momentum and thus a PR wasn’t going to be in the cards.

At .91 miles the first finishers were heading back toward the lake and shortly after I reached mile 1. I had issues with my fitbit display upon race finish so no splits but my time was 13:59 and my pace was 13’35 so far so good.

It was 15 seconds later I saw a stroller coming up from the other side so either the man was crazy fast or he did NOT start at the back where strollers were supposed to start (and honestly with the way I was trying to push through the wall of people when I started I didn’t even notice many strollers passing me)

It was fairly smooth sailing until I reached the ¼ mile stretch of cobblestone where I tend to slow down and my pace made a nine second jump in such a short time

I finally got to 1.79 miles where like in years past Santa and his Elves handed out water. I don’t know if Santa is from the cancer center or the college where the water stop is but this was at least his second year on course.

I got to mile marker 2 in 29:38 minutes with a pace of 14’20 meaning to reach a PR I’d need to make 1.1 miles in 13 minutes which if I ran the whole thing maybe but honestly after last year I didn’t want to push things

I was at 2.9 miles give or take when I saw I just had seconds to go until I hit my PR time and I still had a steep hill climb and then another maybe .15 of a mile after that and so I was just ready to finish.

By the time I got uphill and reached mile 3 it was 45:07 minutes with a 14’34 pace

Then when I crossed the finish things just took a turn for the stressful.

So somehow my fitbit showed an elapsed time of 46:15 and a course map but didn’t have enough data to show anything else….okay… and it said the run was at 1:40 PM

HOWEVER there is somehow a screenshot on my camera roll taken from 950 am ish that says that I ran 3.24 miles total in an unofficial 48:05 time and pace of 14’51 heck it even shows my splits… though since I only noticed this as I was typing my recap and going through the camera roll I wound up deleting the race from my fitbit exercise guide then physically reentering my official time of 46:16 (and a 14’55 pace) with a distance of 3.1

And even to get my official time…. The site said results should be posted by 12 Noon which they much of meant Pacific time as results were not posted till almost three

Anyway the shirt color was cute and the medal was a spinner so there is that
