Running is Uncanceled: Part 1
So when I had made my maintenance plans for what I was going to do between Bud Light Orange and Wine and Dine training I was thinking lots of shorter runs to work on speed training and maybe some serious cross training to help with my endurance… what I didn’t plan for was that two weeks after Promise Run life as we knew it would come to a standstill due to the COVID 19 Pandemic…
Well---like a wise if not memory challenged blue tang fish said “Just Keep Swimming” or well running (or Walk/Jogging in my case) as one of the FIRST things I looked at was if running outdoors was safe with gyms being closed as I work an essential job that was made a million times more stressful and running clears my head. Outdoor activities like running had actually been strongly encouraged as long as they were being done solo or if you were with a buddy with the proper social distance measures in place and so I took off….
Now just because running solo was fine I knew races wouldn’t be as smiled upon and with my may race moved to fall tentatively and my summer races canceled I needed something to motivate me…
I get a lot of EBlasts and just as things were closing down the first virtual I signed up for was the COVID 19 Benefit Run I signed up for the 10K and ended up running 6.23 miles in 1:43:05 (thirteen seconds shy of a PR)
A medal will be sent later in May and this was the only week I double dipped in the Uncanceled Project doing a 5K and a 10K
Which is a good segue
So Run The Edge who is the company that does Run The Year has put out The Uncanceled Project celebrating things in life that are uncanceled
What started as a 4 week event extended to 6 weeks and starting May 11th Uncanceled Project part 2 begins (I will be posting another virtual recap/state of the runners world address once that batch of runs are complete at the end of June)
At first there was no medal and so I really wasn’t interested in pace and wasn’t counting these toward my 5K counts (even now that there was a medal available for purchase which I did cause I’m a bling hound these are purely for fun/training)
The Themes Are:
Gratitude Uncancled 3.3 miles 52:45 (plus the COVID19 10K)
Hope Uncancled 3.28 miles 53:24
Humor Uncancled 3.31 miles 55:31
Inspiration Uncancled 3.33 miles 53:34
Courage Uncancled 3.29 miles 55:13
Commitment Uncancled 3.29 52:26
Another Virtual I’m doing is a Virtual FULL from my local running store where you have 30 days to run 26.2 miles…
As of today I’m at 21.86 miles @ 5:59:00 if I double dip with Uncancled runs 11.99 miles @ 3:17:47 if I don’t double dip with 10 days left to go
I’ve also ended up signing up for the full RunDisney Virtual Shorts series instead of JUST the Haunted Mansion run as well as the Marathon Weekend 10K
