IT’S GONNA BE MAY-FAIRE 2022

After a two year hiatus (well one year hiatus and one year running virtually to be technical) It’s that time of year for the race I have such a love/hate relationship for whatever reason I can’t remember… MAYFAIRE

Things have changed a bit since my last live running of this event from course tweeks to changes in packet pick up location to the heat. Thankfully however unlike the 95 feels like 98 with humidity of 2019 it was a sensible 84 feels like 87 and there was even a slight breeze.

I took seeing Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness earlier in the day as a mild inspiration for my OOTD with a Galaxy print hand-sewn top and a pair of what I would call Raspberry colored Old Navy PowerSoft active Shorts (I dont recall the official color name) as well as my Tangled Bondi Band

The race shirt I got was posted above (I even had a color choice of pink, purple or blue) however it wasn’t a wicking material and I wore it out the following day instead of for the run…

Which back to it…the start was about a quarter mile off from where it had been in the past, however the same bathrooms were open for public use and so I was dropped off a half hour before start time to do any final business on a REAL toilet and pin my bib on. It took about five minutes to get myself situated and another ten to get to the staging area. Important to note instead of a self seeded start shoot they technically had start groups however the shoot gets all released at once instead of mini waves and there really is no policing but I wasn’t taking my chances and started with group 8.

I crossed the start at 7:01 and across from the restroom area where the course used to start I had a coworker out on her porch spectating me. I gave her a wave and shortly after passing her turned the corner from Lake onto Orange and pulled myself far toward the right side of the course. I was less than a half mile in but I figured it would be a good place to pull my water bottle out of my running belt before I got too ahead of myself.

I reached mile marker one in 15 minutes and had been making my way onto Lake Morton around this time taking a quick snapshot of one of the signs promoting the art festival that runs hand and hand with the race

I easily reached the halfway point of the Morton Loop and reached the out and back on Success reaching the water stop at 1.72 and 1.94 respectfully (despite the start in a different location the timestamp of when I reached this vital portion of course was ONLY .05 miles earlier than in 2019)

Shortly after passing the water table on the back portion of course there was a group of spectators with signs saying “You Can Do It!” “But If You Can’t, STOP” “And have a DRINK with us!!!”

It took a total of 32 minutes (17 minute split) to reach mile marker two and just past the mile mark if you paid attention and looked down there was some cute chalk art

I was steps away from turning off Success and back toward Morton when the pace car was turning onto the road meaning I had a very healthy cushion behind me from the end of the line. So, I knew I wouldn’t finish last…I also knew that there was no way I’d run .80 miles in less than 6 mins to gain a PR and so my goal at this point was just to finish in under an hour.

49 minutes running and I reached mile three (18 minute split) and 2 minutes to cross the finish line with an official time of 51:33
