Splash and Dash…. Mayfaire 2023:

 

 

I’m back at it again with one of my staple events Mayfaire. I’ve had high highs and low lows with this race and going in between the weather and a blister on one of my toes I just wanted to finish in less than an hour for my sanity.

There is no fancy expo with locals and I was close to wearing the official race shirt pictured above to the point I already took a flat lay however the skort I was going to wear with it needed some TLC so instead I wore my leopard print livi tank, magenta fila skort and teal bondi.

It was a cooler year than in the past with it being 79 feels like 82 but also it was raining with storms predicted.

I strategically used the restroom before leaving the house so that we could park closer to the start than the public restrooms so that when I arrived at 6:34 ish I could spend 10 mins just sitting in the car refreshing the runners club’s Facebook page for non existent weather alerts.

It was a seven minute or so wet and humid walk to the staging area where it was clear things were good to go.

I crossed the start at 7:01 and less than .10 miles in I pulled my water bottle out of my pocket but not to drink. It felt as if when I tried to run my bottoms were dipping off my waist and I figured it was due to the water bottle weighing things down.

While things still felt like they were sliding slightly after the fact they didn’t feel like I’d be experiencing a pending wardrobe malfunction and so I tried to keep moving forward.

At .26 I passed where we were parked and waved as I continued to trudge along as my glasses began to fog up but thankfully not to the point of impeding my vision and needing me to stop to wipe them down.

I was at .81 when I reached Lake Morton just as the first runner was turning up the final hill.

It was 17 mins till I reached mile one…I’m pretty sure this was my LONGEST first Mayfaire mile and I already comment annually that while they advertise all are welcome this event is put on by the RUNNERS CLUB and is very runner heavy like if your over a 12 min mile you're too slow kind of runners. I definitely wasn’t on track to setting any PRs that was for sure

About five mins later I was onto the out and back 

At 1.77 I reached the water stop.

1.81 the local octogenarians were passing me on the back end of the out and back though for the record they started one or two groups ahead of me and not with or slightly behind like most other races.

1.89 was the turning point

While my fitbit registered 2 miles as I passed by the water table going back and while people around me got a second cup I was refused one. I was also nearly run over by a double stroller but than again it’s not a Lakeland Runners Club event where I get run down or almost run down by one…thankfully this time my shins were left unscathed.

There was the house from last year offering you to stop and have drinks with them again before finally reaching mile 2 in 18 mins (35 mins total) with weaving my clock said I was 2.13 miles 

Passing another house that looked to be handing out BBQ I was finally back on Morton to begin the final leg.

It was another 18 mins till mile marker 3 (53 mins total)

My official time was 55:15 yes it was sub an hour and ONLY 3:42 more than last year but I CAN DO BETTER!!! 

I need to get back into better running shape physically and mentally because honestly if not… unless Springtime Surprise 2024 has a theme that vibes as OMG THIS IS TOO GOOD A TO PASS UP what is currently on my upcoming race docket may be all she wrote for me.
