Red White and Sweaty: Red White and Brew 2024

 

 

They say change is good and this years Red White and Brew had many changes…such as a new venue and no more pre-event bib pick ups.

Even though I didn’t have a bib I still started out with a flat lay. My OOTD was 2021’s Event shirt as well as my Old Navy Powersoft Shorts and the skirt that was made for last years event. I accented it with the red visor I purchased in 2022 for the Gasparilla Half and my Crowned Athletics ‘Star Captain’ Hair Accessories

For GOALS…. While ultimately I’d like to get back to sub 50 mins somewhere in the 53-57 min range of this years “Timed Events” would suffice.

Like I stated above there was no pre race pick up so I arrived at 5:52 AM took 4 mins to walk down to get my bib than waited back in the car until about 6:30 ish. I tried hydrating but it was hard to not do so too much as I wouldn’t be able to use a restroom till after the event or so I thought as while I didn’t notice port o lets apparently the brewery that was hosting the event this year was open to use their restrooms.

At 6:45 temps were 76 feels like 82 with a heat advisory predicted in the next four hours.

As far as on course hydration to battle this I had a semi frozen water in my hand and another strapped in a running belt with an on course stop just before mile marker 2.

At 6:48 they made a last call to get bibs and 6:56 they started leading people into the start shoot stating SPEEDSTERS up front and CHILDREN keep to the middle/back. I stayed somewhat in the middle personally.

My music choice was initially going to be either Hamilton, Music Man or an amalgam of the two soundtracks however ultimately I vibed with my 5k shuffle list where I made it through 15/52 random songs no skips…

Now onto the run…

I crossed the start at 7:04…

While this was a new course if I still had my fitbit to screenshot mileage stamps at different segments I would have however since I can’t do this on the garmin I’ll just go with the notes I did take.

About 13 mins in we reached Lake Beulah where we did a half loop…

About 3 mins later (16 total) my Garmin buzzed that I reached mile one  with me passing the marker a minute later (My Garmin Split was 16:34)

I’d finished the half loop and began to continue on however 31 mins into the overall course was the first glimpse I had at the end of the road from a distance and if I had to guestimate they were about a half ish mile behind me

About a minute after my eyes spotted them I reached the water table.

33 mins overall my Garmin buzzed that I reached mile two. Two mins later I passed the official marker (My Garmin Split was 16:55)

A few mins later was a brick road stretch where I significantly slowed down but thankfully it was only a two minute walk with purpose.

At about 43 mins overall into the course I spotted the end of the line just about to approach where mile marker two was placed thanks to lots of circles and switchbacks in this stretch. I realized I was about a half mile between them and the finish so keeping a steady if not slightly swift pace I’d be golden.

50 mins overall my Garmin buzzed I’d reached mile three I passed the official marker about two mins later (Garmin split was 17:08)

I didn’t take any screenshots when I finished but my Garmin said I ran 3.3 in 55:28 with an official time of 55:20…. It was about a minute longer than last year but on par with my insanely HOT Mayfair time and faster than Watermelon Race #1 (Which if you haven’t noticed I’m making a series post instead of blogging about each race individually this season)
