ARRRGH you ready to ease into normalcy….

Live racing has returned! Okay so not in this post but the Run Gasparilla Expo was live and if I lived closer to Tampa and didn’t have my second vaccine over race weekend I could have run on Bayshore.
But before I talk about that experience (and what's to come) let me catch up from where I left off in my last blog post shall I?

April 10th I ran the Spring Edition of the Woman's Virtual Half’s 10K. This has been a fun virtual though the only negative I have is that I wish the medals were dated. That said I love the swag you get with this (a shirt, tote, bondi band as well as some drink mixes)

My time for this run was 1:52:10 definitely NOT my best. I am beginning to think that running alongside others definitely helps to motivate me {Though also I was coming off of my first vaccine shot that day so that could attest to some of the sluggishness)

After this I did the Virtual Edition of the Promise Run. You could run this one between April 22nd-April 25th and so I decided to celebrate my sisters birthday by running my 5K run.
Again the time wasn’t my best by a long shot at 51:14

Overall in April my Marathon a Month time was 7:43:19 and even though things are going back to some semblance of normal I have officially decided to challenge myself with another year of running 26.2 miles minimum each month!!!!!!

And now for Gasparilla

Like I said above, it was a complicated road to this event. Registration was delayed a month and even when it did open they had said that while their goal was to be live there was definitely no way of knowing in June of 2020 just how things would be in February 2021 which was why I signed up for the 15K/8K challenge instead of my first half which I had planned.

By October they had sent out an email saying you could convert to a virtual option but things were still planned to be live in February and they laid out guidelines about staggered starts and mask requirements among other things.

In December they still planned on being live but to do that they had to move from February which could be anywhere between 40-70+ to May which could be anywhere between 70-90+ when it came to temperature…We changed out Hotel Rooms, I changed my time off requests and started my training schedule.

Than in March they pulled the trigger… the race would be virtual however the expo would still be live if you opted to go there to pick up your swag instead of paying an extra shipping fee and Bayshore would still be closed off during the hours that the race would be run for any runners to run at their leisure.
As for me I headed to the expo and was glad to see some form of normalcy with the name wall

Once you got on the floor they still had the normal booths however not as many and spaced out for physical distance….I did buy some new Bondi Bands

They had the room organized with an area to pick up bibs then I headed over toward the challenge area where they gave you everything and I mean EVERYTHING!!!!!

They gave my my Publix Reusable Grocery Bag with my 15K & 8K shirts

Than they gave me my challenge jacket and medal

Finally they gave me two drawstring backpacks each containing a medal, finisher towel and a lot of goodies both from booths that were on the floor (like rice and pasta) and from what we would of received at the finish (a fruit cup, breakfast bar and cheese its)

I had fully intended to run that weekend at home however since right before the expo I got my second vaccine by the time I woke up Saturday I felt like a hot mess…. Thankfully I did do a training run to test out my virtual courses over Easter Weekend and so I managed to run my 15K on April 3rd with a time of 2:40:38

And the 8K on April 4th with a time of 1:27:20
