(Bonnet) Spring(s) has sprung…Bonnet Springs 5K 2023
I love the smell of a new event especially when it brings a change of scenery at a new venue and so when I saw the runners club was hosting an event at a recently opened public park I couldn’t help but sign up
Bib pick up was pretty simple with just a tent set up at the venue. Grab your bib & shirt and you are good to go!
I slept through my alarm and when I did wake up I had a throbbing headache. Thankfully I still had ample time to ready myself and head to the venue and doubly thankful that by mile one the headache had subsided.
My OOTD was my Everest 5k shirt (I briefly debated going with a tank instead) my blue livi skort and my elevens eggo bondi
I arrived at the venue around 6:15 and used the restroom area that was there before following the pathway toward the starting area at 6:27
At 6:42 or most likely a few minutes earlier I was at the family lawn which was the bib pick up as well as the finish area. This is where runners and spectators alike we’re hanging out.
I met up with my brother in law and about ten minutes later we were walking to the start shoot.
Checking my weather app once I got inside it said it was 69 feels like 72
By 7:02 I was off…
At 0.62 miles we turned from the road/parking lot onto the main trail where we’d be doing a lap and a half by races end.
Since we double looped parts of this loop at 0.90 miles the first of the winners was parallel in the lane next to us.
I reached mile one with a time stamp of 1.04 and an elapsed time of 16:01
Victory!!!! Just kidding I was over halfway there though at 1.65 miles as I was back at the family lawn making my way past the backside of the children’s museum where a few moments later at timestamp 1.77 I hit the aid station handing out much needed hydration (even though I did have half a bottle still in my hand plus another chilled water bottle tucked under my shirt inside my running belt)
I hadn’t reached marker two but at my trackers 2.08 timestamp I was passed by two of the running clubs elder runners at 85 & 89 respectively before finally hitting marker two officially at 2.11 with an elapsed time of 33:24
At 2.19 I passed the restroom building where I was dropped off a true full circle moment however we still had some path circling to do….
At about 2.67 I reached my PR threshold
I reached marker three at 3.19 with an elapsed time of 50:50 oh so close
I finally crossed with a mileage stamp of 3.30 and an official time of 52:30
it was slightly less than Promise Run which was nice but still about ten minutes over my 42 minute PR and about 4 minutes over the highest point of my 'sweet spot' of 45-48 minutes
After the race I reunited with my brother in law and we went to go claim our free frozen novelty as well as take a few pics and overall take in the vibe of the venue
All and all I’d definitely do another event in the future that uses this venue
CHALLENGES:
527.54 of 2023 miles...this year instead of the challenge coming with an interactive run the year medal you could could choose to order one or more incremental medal (500-1000-1500-2023) to customized your journey .... I got all four so as you see above I've included my 500 medal
As far as the March "Streak" Series I unfortunately had to break things and so I've re earned the If Pets Have Thumbs and Cereal badge and added the Pi badge... my current streak is 18 days in a row with 10,000+ steps
